Knee Pain Shouldn’t Sideline Your Active Lifestyle

Whether you’re training for a race, teaching fitness classes, or just trying to stay active, knee pain can derail everything.

Losing Your Fitness Momentum

You’ve worked too hard to build your strength and endurance. Generic PT that doesn’t understand your goals won’t get you back to peak performance.

Rushed, Cookie-Cutter Treatment

15-minute sessions with a rotating cast of therapists who barely remember your name? That’s not care—that’s a production line that won’t solve your knee pain.

Insurance Runarounds & Surprise Bills

Dealing with confusing claims, co-pays that add up, and treatment plans dictated by what insurance covers instead of what you actually need to heal.

“It’s no exaggeration to say Ashley and the PHYT Collective changed my life. A former DI track athlete, I spent the decade post-graduation in debilitating Achilles pain, dropping tens of thousands of dollars seeing every specialist across DC. Every member of the PHYT Collective is of the teach-a-man-to-fish variety, digging into the root issue and educating the patient on why an injury occurs and how it’s connected to the greater body. Ashley and her team have a genuine hunger for solving seemingly unsolvable problems.”

Kara M.

“Finding this place was a Godsend! I’ve worked with three different therapists, on three different issues, and they have all been first-class! They fixed my hip, beyond fixing it they told me why I was having hip issues and how to fix habitual movement patterns that were causing the issue. I have been going to physical therapy for 25 years and this is hand down the best I have ever been treated.”

Chris P.

“PHYT Collective truly changed my recovery journey. After an accident that significantly damaged the left side of my body, I was honestly unsure how quickly—or fully—I’d be able to heal. Working with Dr. Ashley was an absolute godsend. She didn’t just treat symptoms—she understood my body, adjusted in real time, and pushed me forward with care, confidence, and precision. Thanks to her expertise, my recovery was far speedier than I ever expected.”

Knee Pain Physical Therapy FAQs

Everything you need to know before your first visit.

1. Do you accept insurance for knee pain physical therapy?

The PHYT Collective operates as a cash-based practice, which allows us to provide a full hour of personalized care without insurance limitations. We now work with a partner who serves as the middleman and can submit claims to your insurance on your behalf—no need for you to handle paperwork. This means you get the best care possible while still accessing your insurance benefits.

2. How long are physical therapy sessions?

Every session is a full 60 minutes of one-on-one care with your doctor of physical therapy. Unlike traditional PT clinics where you might see a therapist for only 15-20 minutes, you’ll have your provider’s undivided attention for the entire hour—no assistants, no double-booking, just focused treatment.

3. What should I expect during my first visit for knee pain?

Your first session includes a comprehensive assessment of your knee injury, movement patterns, and performance goals. We’ll conduct specialized testing such as movement screens, gait analysis if relevant, and functional assessments. Then we’ll create a personalized treatment plan combining manual therapy, corrective exercise, and evidence-based techniques tailored to get you back to your active lifestyle.

4. How is your knee pain treatment different from other DC clinics?

We specialize in treating active professionals, boutique fitness enthusiasts, runners, and lifelong athletes—not just getting you out of pain, but getting you back to peak performance. Our cash-based model means care is dictated by what you need, not insurance reimbursement. Plus, we’re a Black-owned, women-owned practice that’s LGBTQ+ friendly and a transgender safe space.

5. Can you help with ACL injuries and post-surgical rehab?

Absolutely. We provide comprehensive ACL rehabilitation using return-to-sport testing, neuromuscular re-education, blood flow restriction training, and progressive strengthening protocols. Whether you’re recovering from ACL reconstruction or managing an ACL injury conservatively, we’ll guide you through every phase of recovery with evidence-based care.

6. How do I book an appointment?

Call us at (202) 505-6300 or email getPHYT@phytcollective.com to schedule your first session. We’re open Monday through Thursday from 7:30 AM to 6 PM, and Fridays from 7:30 AM to 4 PM. Our downtown DC location at 818 Connecticut Ave NW is convenient for professionals throughout the city.
